Trail entry
Shaded climb on packed earth and pine needles
The track begins where the paved road ends and the ground turns to packed earth with a thin cover of pine needles. From the roadside pull-off the route climbs steadily, and for most of the way the canopy stays overhead. That shade is what makes the climb usable in the middle of the day, when the open paths along the coast are already too hot to enjoy.
Underfoot the surface holds firm in dry weather. After rain it is a different story: the steeper switchbacks turn slick, and the needles hide the softer ground beneath them. Near the top the trees thin out, the wind arrives, and the view opens toward the bay before the track links inland to a wider network of walking paths.
Packed earth with a layer of pine needles. Firm when dry, slick on the switchbacks after rain.
Continuous pine cover for most of the climb. It breaks only near the ridge, where the trees thin out.
Sheltered below the tree line. Exposure picks up on the open ridge, where the view toward the bay appears.
Straightforward from the roadside pull-off. The upper end connects to inland walking paths.
