Trail entry six
Low sun, wet stone and quiet coves
The northern shore path reads differently once the season turns. Stone that rings dry underfoot in July holds moisture for days, and the sun stays low enough that long stretches of the route never leave the shadow. This set was shot on foot across several visits, not in one clean afternoon, so the same slabs appear wet, half-dry and slick in turn.
Wind comes off the water harder than in summer, and the coves sit empty. Access points are unchanged, but daylight runs short, which makes an early start the more sensible choice.
Limestone slabs stay damp where the path runs under trees. The shaded sections are the ones to watch, not the open stretches that catch what little sun there is.
The low sun leaves long parts of the route in shadow through the middle of the day. Photographs from this set were made in that flat, cool light rather than at golden hour.
Exposure is higher than in summer and the coves are empty. Entry and exit points stay the same, but the shorter daylight favours starting early.
